Reel #10. 1955

Reel #10 Clip#1. Gas Company Picnic, 1955

Nancy’s Notes: Donna is still Caldwell at this point in time; and at 35 seconds, Floyd has always been a Caldwell. .

Rose, Floyd and their daughter, Donna, were close family friends; Floyd worked for the pipeline company that laid the gas company’s pipe.

Reel #10 Clip #2. Christmas, 1955

This clip is a gem from the opening scene of all four siblings entering Christmas morning walking down the stylish green hall in birth order and in step with each other. Followed by a wonderful shot of Sara and Peter showing their stocking gifts. They were 9 and 10 years old in December 1955, and I was thirteen, no wonder I got the gift of an adult white shirt, tightly pinned for display, (otherwise I could have worn it to the Tea Party).

We need to remember watching our annual gift show and tell, that when we went to bed on Christmas Eve, the living room was as it always was, and that’s when Mom and Dad set the Christmas Morning scene, every year for many years.

Reel #10 Clip #3. Theodore Wirth Park, 1955

The boys skiing at the regional park with Dad on the camera … I don’t know who the third skier is, or did one of us go twice, can’t tell. A favorite thing for Dad to do was the projector backward while showing a movie; still a treat to this day.

Reel #10 Clip #4. Sara’s First Holy Communion, 1955

Sara’s First Holy Communion at St. Joe’s in Hopkins. Cousin Bobby died in 2023.

Reel #10 Clip #5. Easter, 1955

Easter dinner with Dad’s sister Aunt Priscilla and her husband Harold who was a manager with Old Dutch Potato Chips; plus, Rose, Floyd and the childhood vision of Donna. The after-dinner show may have been from another holiday gathering … but the same guests?

Reel #10 Clip #6. Scout Camp, 1955

Scout camp with Father Brown … this is the man who told me the facts of life one day in the rectory when I asked him what “sexy” meant.
