Reel #14 Clip #1. Water fun at the Mullers

The clip begins with Nancy modeling her First Communion Dress for the family luncheon in the finished basement. The table is set with Mom’s striking 1950s Flora patterned bowls and plates. A helpful fade out/fade in, by yours truly, opens on me dressed in his graduation gown and cap to accept a gradatory handshake from each family member in the Kodachrome green hallway. Even though I selected Peter’s handshake for the still shot (1:40) in the July Letter to Sara, Sara’s — beginning with her entering the frame and ending with her beautiful smile in her blue dress — is home movie gold.
A backyard party in the sunshine is underway with the same guests as the luncheon? Uncle Bud is Grandmother Sadie’s son with her first husband Joe Desomery. Lawrence settled in Charleston and married a local gal, Ann C. Dubard. The couple visited throughout our childhood — the mysterious relatives from the South. They seemed to be getting along fine with family friends Rose and Floyd.
Then a fade into another backyard party, a traditional one held at the cousins’ home in Hopkins during Raspberry Days. Mom and Aunt Bern are sisters and their offspring were fast cousins through the years. Cousins Peter, Bobby, and Bernadette pose with Cousin Wayne’s cute car. Sara wraps the shoot with cartwheels at the backyard party.
